  • Birth Certificates

    Birth Certificates are extracts from metrical books of births issued by Jewish civil registries at the request of family members or local authorities, handwritten on special printed forms in Polish or German, signed and sealed by local Jewish registrars.These records contain child's name, date and place of birth; names, surnames, age, family origin, occupation and residence of father and mother; date of circumcision (or name giving); names, surnames and residence of witnesses, sandek, kum, circumcision operator and midwife, as well as reference to corresponding metrical book entries.

  • Certificates of Dissolution of Marriage

    Certificates of Dissolution of Marriage are documents in German or Polish, handwritten, signed and sealed by local Rabbis’ at the request of Jewish couples who decided to dissolve their marriage by common consent.  According to the law, Rabbi was obliged to try three times to dissuade a divorcing couple from their intention to dissolve their marriage.

    Death Certificates are extracts from metrical books of deaths issued by Jewish civil registries at the request of family members or local authorities, handwritten on special printed forms in Polish or German, signed and sealed by local Jewish registrars. These records contain information on name, surname, age, family status, occupation and residence of deceased, as well as date and place of death, cause of death, date and place of funeral, and reference to corresponding metrical book entries.

  • Marriage Certificates

    Certificates of Marriage are extracts from metrical books of marriages issued by Jewish civil registries at the request of  marrying couples, family members or local authorities, handwritten on special printed forms in Polish or German, signed and sealed by local Jewish registrars. These records contain information on place of birth, family origin, age and residence of Groom and Bride, names and surnames of Rabbi and witnesses, date and place of marriage registration, and reference to corresponding metrical book entries
